ニューアルバムから最初のミュージックビデオです。
今度リリースする僕たちの新しいアルバム”Diary Of A Godman”は、そのタイトルからも分かる通りOzzy Osbourneへのトリビュートとしての意味を込めた作品です。
ですので、アルバムに収録されている楽曲は大半がわりとシンプルな1980年代のハードロック、メタルのスタイルで書かれています。(まあ、実のところ今回に限らず、僕たちはいつもわりとそんな感じなのだけれど)
ただ、この楽曲”Good News”は、それとは若干方向性が違い、現在形、未来形のImari Tonesのスタイルを目指した曲です。とはいえ、僕たちの基本は「80年代メタル」なので、それほど変わらないかもしれないけれど。ニュアンス的には、2022年にリリースした4曲入りのEP、”To Rome”に収録されていた”Return To Me”あたりに近い立ち位置だと思います。もっと後に発表しようかと思っていたけど、まあここでEPに入れちゃおう、みたいな。作曲した順番と、発表する順番が必ずしも一致しない、とでも言いましょうか。
ある時期以降、僕たちは日本のクリスチャンバンドとして、日本人としてのアイデンティティやレガシーという事を大切にして創作活動をしています。この曲もその流れにありまして、やはり日本のキリスト教の歴史を踏まえた歌詞になっています。
テーマとしては、日本に初めてキリスト教が伝来した時の出来事を歌っています。
きっと海外のクリスチャンの人たちの立場からすると、キリスト教が伝わった、なんて素晴らしい！となるのでしょうが、現実の歴史はそうではなかったわけで。それは必ずしもハッピーな出来事ではなく、多くの流血を引き起こした悲劇の始まりでもあったわけです。霊的な視点から見れば、それは戦いの始まりでありました。その戦いは今でも続いているわけです。
この辺りは、たとえば遠藤周作氏の小説あたりにも描かれていると思います。映画化された「沈黙」にも描かれているように、世界宗教であるキリスト教が「真実」”universal truth”なるものを持ち込むわけですが、日本人にとってはそれは生きていく上で邪魔なものでしかなかった、というような側面です。
いずれにしても、日本の歴史において「キリスト者」「キリシタン」は、信仰を守るためには命を懸ける、時に命を捨てる必要があったわけです。そこには多くの迫害があり、悲劇があったわけです。
この曲はそんな「日本」と「キリスト教」がぶつかったその瞬間に焦点を当てています。
しかしある意味で、そこにはキリスト教の真実が表現されていると思います。

ビデオのフッテージは、2026年6月6日に行われたHeavy Metal Churchの礼拝イベントの際に池袋の中央福音教会で撮影されました。撮影はこれまでもImari Tonesのビデオをいくつも手がけてくれている友人でありカメラマンのオオハラシンイチ氏です。編集に関しては今回はコンセプトを決めずに撮影し、自分たちで行ったものです。
もうこのウェブサイトの更新をしている時点で来週の話になりますが、7月22日に新しいアルバム”Diary Of A Godman”がリリースされます。発売日は一年前になくなったオジーの命日に合わせたものです。
その日に、タイトルトラックのミュージックビデオも公開する予定になっています。
